Just found this forum the other night and have been cruising through here the last few days doing some research and thought I would at least say hello.
I've been loosely looking for a new car for the last few months as the old Geo Metro is about on its last legs. Looked at everything from Scion TC's and the new FRS, a few Subaru's and some Ford Focus's. Finding a car that met my qualifying needs has been rough (1: Manual Trans, 2: Either two-door hatch or four-door sedan, 3: AWD a plus but not a deal breaker, and 4: under $15k budget-wise). I had just about given up and stumbled upon an '06 MazdaSpeed6 on cars.com Sunday night while watching Top Gear re-runs with my uncle. I had never seen an AWD model before so we did a little research and saw there was a short review that TG did for the Mazda6 MPS (same car I believe) so we queued the episode up off the hard drive and watched it. Luckily the car I found on cars.com was about 45 miles away so we were considering making a little road-trip Monday morning to take a look at it when my uncle pulled up ebay to see if there were any listed there as well. Low and behold there was a 2006 MazdaSpeed6 GT in our town and at a dealership that my uncle attended high school with the general manager! That next morning we had about 4-5 inches of snow hit the ground but we still gave his contact at the dealership a call anyways (at least to look at it). Walked in and another one of his friends happened to be a sales rep there and tossed me the keys for a test drive! We took her out for a spin, about 45 minutes cruising through hilly neighborhoods packed with snow just trying to get the Speed6 stuck to no avail. Then onto the highway for a quick ten mile sprint. Everything about the car was tip top, though there seems to be a little cabin noise from the headliner rattling/crunching somewhere? Since I had been doing research the night before I popped the hood when we returned and checked for a smoky turbo and also peaked at the rear diff which despite the extended test drive there were no trouble signs from either despite the snow and ice the rear diff was bone dry. Going inside the the dealership the rep pulled an AutoCheck report and this ride scored a 90 out of 83! One owner over it's life and 91k miles, too me the mileage seems a little high but all the maintenance checks out and the entire car is stock. I have all the paperwork drawn up and am just waiting to hear back from the accountant from my workplace to get a few paycheck stubs printed out. I guess I'm just wondering if it is too good to be true? Or if there are any other things I should worry about? This will be my first Mazda purchase and also first financed vehicle that I didn't pay flat out cash for. Any advice would be much appreciated! |

Welcome to 6club!!
Be prepared to upgrade engine/tranny & rear diff mounts. Hopefully the VVT is running strong for ya as its a bit pricey to repair. The speed is a fantastic car but can be compared to a high maintenance girlfriend lol. Treat her good, and she will treat you good ![]() Sent from my iPhone using AutoGuide.com Free App

Ya thats quite a step up indeed. I suggest hitting up the speed section & checking out the stickies to start with. The search bar will keep ya reading for a while as well. If you cant find answers to questions start a thread & people will be happy to help out.
Enjoy your stay here. Sent from my iPhone using AutoGuide.com Free App

Welcome to the forum!
Congrats on your new speed! Like Smoke, I'd also suggest heading to the speed section for reading up on a few things. Speeds are like high maintenance girlfriends: you really have to take care of them and make sure they're always happy, but they're certainly worth the ride

Nice score on the ride!
Seems like you did your homework and you're off to a great start to owning what seems like a well cared MS6! Welcome to the club!
