Has anyone done their own tire rotation on their 6 yet? If so, could you give some instructions and pics? I know the owners manual is somewhat helpful, but I'd rather read directions from this forum.
Thanks!

It used to be that simple. But now the 2009's have the Tire Pressure Monitoring Devices. The owner's manual encourages the tires to be rotated at the dealer, but gives some rather criptic directions if an owner wants to attempt it himself/herself.

Since I had pressure sensors installed in my Winter tires, I asked the dealer that same question (well, not exactly the same since yours is tire rotation and mine was tire change), if I had to go to the dealer to have the tires changed. He told me I didn't have to since after a few miles, they'll paired themselves up again.

I rotated them 1000k miles ago the old-fashioned way. Front to back. No TPMS issues whatsoever.

Did mine last month; dealer's advice for TPMS:
Don't bring the tires TOO far away from the vehicle (no issue in my garage)
If you get a TPMS error, drive the car for up to 13 miles - if the light stays on, call the dealer.

Since the Mazda 6 is front wheel drive, you move the front tires straight back to the rear and cross the rears to the front. Therefore your passenger side rear would now be on your driver's side front, and your driver's side rear would be on your passenger sider front.

No need to worry about TPMs. They'll work in any position on the car, as long as the signal is there.
As for the tires themselves, you should first determine what type of tire you have: directional, uni-directional or non-directional. The latter can be used at any corner on the car. Uni-directional tires are those with a tread that is of two "halvs", i.e. two or more different tread patterns (and compounds through the width of the tread. As long as they are mounted correctly (that is, right side in/out) on the rim, they'll work at any position on the car, right or left. Directional tires should only be rotated front to back on the same side of the car, lest the tire runs "backwards."

Typical uni-directional tire:

Typical directional tire:

Typical non-directional tire:

Directional tires have arrows on their sidewalls indicating the proper direction of forward travel (note that the tread pattern alone is not necessarily an indicator of the direction of travel. Case in point: Bridgestone Potenza 050).

Uni-directional tires have one or both sidewalls marked "outside/inside" or "right/left."

Non-directional tires do not require such markings.
