I'm ponying up for some decent winter tires this season. I've pretty much decided on the Dunlop M3's to fit the stock 18" rim. Here is the best quote I've gotten, from SEARS by the way.

4 tires- $768
Environmental fee- $10
4 Valve stems- $15.96
Road Hazard Plus- $93.98 -------( My girlfriend got the quote for me today, so I'm pretty sure I won't be adding this on)
Balance- $55.96
Tax- $65.37

Total- $1009.27

Are these prices decent, and is the road hazard plus thing worth it at all??

Any help is greatly appreciated.

These tires are $177 a pop on tirerack plus shipping. Discount tire direct didn't have them or anything else for that matter. I'm really trying to avoid paying this much, but I need something that is going to reliably get me to work and back in the worst conditions.

You can buy a set of 17" wheels (used OEM 6 wheels or cheaper alloys) and winter tires for the same price (if not less), and you wouldn't have to worry about the wear-and-tear on your rims from switching out the tires twice per year, as well as the cost per swap (which can add up to hundreds of $$$).

I just received my new Blizzak LM22's (215..45..18) . . . I ordered them from the Tire Rack. Installing on Wednesday (no snow yet).
A great winter/snow tire @ $189.

Michellin makes a X-Ice tire but its not load rated to factory specs. But if you dont push it, and you shouldnt on snows no matter what, at 139 a tire, might be a good alternitive.

I have been doing some research on this as well, and its good money to spend, you should get a few seasons out of them if you keep them up to par too.

Phh I paid 104 each for Pirelli Winter Snowsport off of tirerack.com. After shipping, mounting, and balancing I might've paid $470 total. Tirerack sometimes has killer deals, keep your eye open and grab some stock 17's from a regular 6, or heck you can get some e-bay rims.

It's a perfect oportunity to upgrade your summer wheels. Buy a set of RX8 wheels on Ebay ($450 or less), and put your summers on there. Mount the winters on the regular rims: if you get two seasons out of your snow tires it'll save you at least two remounting fees (which your example shows, are substantial). Order the tires from Tirerack for the winter, their prices on lower volume stuff like winter tires can't be beat. For summers, shop for bargains. The Blizzak LM22s are quite sticky icy or dry and hold up well (summers were gone in 8k and 10k respectively for the Bridgestones and Hankooks?, winters have lasted 6k with another season left in them-and yes, I drive HARD).

This is actually exactly what I'm doing. I currently have RX-8 rims on with summer tires, as I just moved up to NY from SC. Anyway, Ive decided to shop around some more and hopefully have gotten my hands on some used winter tires to throw on my OEM rims.

i feel like that is alot. i paid 890 from tirerack from dunlop m3 215/50/17 and 17x7 rims.

i have rx8 rims as my summers, which i actually got paid for, because the tires on the rims were shit. i traded my msy6 rims to the guy. and then got the 17's for winter. the dunlop m3's are amazing though
