So Portland gets snow maybe 2 days a year and I'll be keeping my stock wheels and tires for those days (maybe w/ studs up front), so I read a couple threads saying that if a person lives in a pretty moderate climate (temps in winter are usually 40-50 highs and lows in the mid 30's but with tons of rain - is that moderate?), summer tires are the way to go. I'm about to order my tires so just wanted to get some more opinions on this.

Description of the Kumho Ecsta SPT's f/ tire rack
* Size: 225/40ZR18
* Serv. Desc: 92Y
* Load Rating XL
* UTQG: 320 AA A

fyi: I'm getting 5zigen fn01r-c wheels...

Thanks in advance!

Summer tire compounds get hard really quick as the temps drop. If you get rain and thirty some degrees, they'll probably feel really slick. While they vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, I've read that the average compound compliance in a summer tire is ok into the fifties, fair in the forties and not recommended too much below that. While it would be nice to have the better traction of the summer tire, you may be disappointed with the results in colder weather.

You can get your summer rims/tires as long as you put back your stock setup when winter hits. I think the best comment I read from someone who drove summer tires on cold pavement was somthing like.... "It's like driving with plastic wheels on wet pavement"

I'll need the damn side skirts to go with the lip. I also need the clear or tinted side markers. My car is white with chromed tails so I don't know which to get. Decisions + money = bad

How much are these tires? You might also want to consider the Falken FK-452 tires. They are a ultra high performance summer tire that I just recently got for my car. I've been very pleased with how they look at drive so far compared to my old bridgestone re50 that came with my ms6. http://www.edgeracing.com/tire/3145/

It's really that bad? Wow, I had no idea. I've got a couple days to decide for sure... I was thinking I'd just switch to my stockers if I thought weather was going to get bad, but if I have to change wheels every time it gets into the 30's, that sounds like a huge hassle.
