Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a used set of wheels and tires locally. I'm really not current on wheel sizes.

The wheels are KOSEKI k-1's, 17 x 7.5, 114.3 x 5, and the offset is 45. I was wondering if these numbers sound agreeable to the speed6.

They also come with tires 225/45, still in pretty good shape, but I would probably be taking the tires of for a new set.

I really want to get some lighter wheels to reduce the unsprung weight.

Thanks, Randy

Why go to 17's for that? You can get 18" wheels that weigh 18-19 lbs each for a reasonable price. Also the OEM tires are heavy. Tires I put on my car after OEMs were about 3lbs. less per corner.

They're local, they're cheap, they're 17 pounds. They have good tires (treadwise) on them that I can sell even if I get new tires, which increases their cheapness factor. And I like the color, like a dark grey.

Those should fit just fine. I would sell the tires and go with a 225/50-17. That is only .9% off from the stock MS6 tire size. That will keep your speedo acurate.

Parting out my car! South Florida only (don't want to ship and I like cash). I have a lot of stuff. PM me if you are in SoFla and looking for some parts.

Thanks. I find the speedo is off by 3-4% with the stock wheels and tires anyways.

For any given mass, the moment of inertia (rotational mass) is greater for the larger diameter.

Moment of Inertia ("rotational mass") ~ m * r^2

This isn't EXACTLY correct since the wheel's mass isn't completely on the outer diameter.... but it's a good proportionality rule for this.

So even for 2 wheels that both weigh 17 lbs, the smaller diameter one will be slightly easier for the engine to rotate. I think the Kosei's are a good choice! OTOH, I think 18s look better aesthetically. So it's really a toss up IMO - just depends on what you are going for.

Could be improper inflation...

I definitley agree that the 18's look better. But I'm throwing aesthetics out the window..

I want something lighter, and less money to replace tires.

If I'm going to eat front tires every 7000 miles, I may as well get 17's. With the reduced weight I should see additional performance benefits.

Also as far as the mileage accuracy, I was using a gps, but I was looking at the speedo, which the needle may not be precise. I suppose for a fair experiment I'd have to use the trip meter against my gps and see if the accumilated mileage differs. I keep my tires at 38.5lbs..

Those are the same dimensions as the wheels I use for winter, so they should fit.

Don't forget to check on the hub bore-- the MS6 needs 67.1mm. The hub bore usually isn't too small with aftermarket wheels, but you might need a set of hub-centric rings if the hub bore is too large.

You also might want to check the rear fender clearance if you stick with the 225mm tires. I use a 215mm section width tire for winter, and didn't have any rubbing problems (this was before I rolled the fenders to fit the summer tires).
