Hey guys, I just bought RX-8 rims for my 05 6s 4-door and need some tires with them. I'm going by what tire rack says on the Generals, and for the Kumhos pretty much all of your guys feedback. Please, help me make a decision! Money is not an issue and as you can see I live in Hawaii where it is always nice and sunny so summer tires are the way to go! If you have other preferences please do tell, but for now, I'm kinda down to these 2. They both seemed to have gotten better reviews than most other tires to include the top of the line according to tire rack. Mahalo in advance..

if its daily driving only, get the exclaim. if its daily driving AND some autocross, get the SPT.

If you want to get full wear out of your tires, I'd avoid both of these! General's always seem to become slick as grease in the rain as they wear (haven't run acrossed anyone running them yet that would say otherwise). Kumho's turn into eggs as they wear so they don't stay balanced after about half worn (ditto on previous comment). Just my input.

Anyone have experience with any other summer tires? As Jax stated I read nothing but good things about the Generals. I'm leaning towards the Generals, but I think I might go with Kumho's because I will eventually autocross this car. SHux, I muight just buy both!

I have the SPT's and I love them. They stick to the road very nicely and in the rain they handle very well. I do not autoX or anything just daily driving and the occasional road race with some joker trying to show off for his girl. I love these tires and will buy them again.

235/40 general uhp's here and i love them. tire rack tried to talk me into a smaller size, but i have yet to rub. even with over 800 pounds in the car. four tires for $400 is pretty hard to beat. as for the comment about them not being a good tire in the wet, i disagree. we have had pretty heavy rains and some flooding here during the last 2 weeks and they held up very well. a buddy of mine actually drove on them during the winter here and said they were just as good as any a/s tire he has ever owned. (i have the full size pics if you want a better look at how they look on the 6).

Thanks for the pics tom, I'm thinking, either way, both tires are great for price! I think I'll be purchasing the Generals. 235 good on RX-8 rims? I was leaning towards the 225 since our stocks were 215s. Thanks!

I have the general exclaims on RX-8 rims (on an MS6) and though they are not quite as good as the stockers in the rain, I like them and the price is hard to beat.

As for 215s, that is not stock on an RX-8 rim and depending on the profile, may be too narrow (someone was selling some RX8 rims with 15/35s here recently and they looked horrible). I went with 225 (which is stock width on rx8s) and they look right. The 235s above look good too. I would not go with 215s.
