I have winter on my OEm wheels right now, my Rota's will not be here until late may. Outside of the obvious "driving in nice weather on winter tires sucks) arguement, iwas concerned about wear. Seeing as there are meant to run un 30 and below, will they wear quicker in the now 60-90 degree temps? Am I ruining or prematurely wearing these by running them for the next 2 months until i can get my OEM tires on my Rotas wheels?

I am not sure i wanna pay to have my OEMs put back on, the nin 2 months pay to switch the oems to the rotas and put the winters back on the stock wheels.

I'd rather replace my brakes than my engine, so other than the occasional heel/toe downshift I don't put the stress on the engine of compression braking. It's not a diesel.

tireguy and postosh will probably correct me

since you will be operating those tires above thier normal operating temperatures you will probably cause some more tire wear than normal, it may not be significant enough to worry about though. I've seen cars around here that never take them off. if you drive aggressively enough in them you may get some chunking.

I, for one, willl agree with you.

There are several different approaches to building winter tires. If Big Ben's winter tires are Bridgestone Blizzaks, they are built like an onion, with layers of different tread compounds. If he has those, he may well have worn through the most effective layer over the past winter already, and why not get a few more miles out of them before taking them off and tossing them? If, however, he is bound and determined to use the tires again next winter, he probably should get them off as soon as he can now, so that he will have some tread left for next winter.

Obviously it depends on how many miles you put on in 2 months but I'm in the same position as BigBen and planned to ride my winters out while I wait for Rotas. Thankfully warmer temps mean I can ride the bike now too and mitigate some of the use but I also intend on changing my driving habits to minimize the wear - accelerate slower, cruise at lower speeds and take it easy in the corners - basic common sense stuff. Since I'm usually driving at ~7 AM and 6PM during the week anyway it's still pretty cool even if daytime highs get up to 50 or 60F so it all helps.

Pretty much just have to use less than $100 bucks worth of rubber to make the math work out- figure that's 10-20% of the tread life which seems ok for me given that I'll prolly only put about 1k miles in that time.

When speaking with people the Michilen X-Ice should last 2-4 season depending on milage and such, These look barely worn honestly, but it sounds like i need to swap them out ASAP because I KNOW I wont be able to resist EVERY urge to use the big pedal on the right....

Like has been said, the main question is if you plan on getting another winter out of them. If yes...then you may want to reconsider and put the OEMs on. They do wear more in warmer, dryer weather. Besides, the stockies don't exactly have the best life either. I would put OEMs on and save the winters for another year.

I agree that is best in theory, but that also means mounting/balancing tires for 3 sets instead of 1

1. Remove winters form OE wheels mount/balance summers
2. After getting rotas remove summers and mount on rotas
3. AND mount/balance winters on OE wheels

Thats another 80-100 bucks... but i am thinking I gotta do it too....

I'm guessing you didn't take the add on when you bought your snows for removal and remounting of previous tires..

Not following you, i had to pay to switch them intially, the point fo 2 sets of wheels though is that 1: they are cool, and 2: it will eventually save me money form having to pay someone else 2 times a year!!

Another $100 will get you through NEXT winter into spring. So that $100 can last a while.

A lot cheaper than needing to buy new winters this fall @ $500-$600.
