Does anyone have any information whether 205 50 17 would work on a MS6. I have a set of 17 OEM rims that I am using for winter. I have always heard that a more narrow tire is best for snow/winter.

Thanks for the help

so long as the load rating is high enough, yes, it will work. speedometer difference is about 2.2% too fast when compared to stock 215/45/18s, so thats relatively ok.

I replied to the e-mail you sent me. You don't believe me? 205/50R17 is a tad too small. 2% is the smallest you should go. 2.2% is outside the scope of what should be used. Why not use 215/50R17 or 205/55R17? But, hey, it's your car.

It's not that I dont believe you, just trying to see what others have experienced with the combo.
I don't understand why it would be too small

Thanks for the email

Your initial inquiry was about a slightly narrower tire for winter snow.

The width of a 205/50 is not the problem. The problem is, if you retain the 50 aspect ratio, the overall diameter of the mounted tire is correspondingly smaller, and that will affect gearing and odometer error. Because the aspect ratio is, well, a ratio, that is, a percentage of the section width, going to a narrower tire with the same aspect ratio means that the tire is also smaller all around. So, if you drop down to a 205 width, it would be advisable to scale up to a 55 series tire. A 205/55 tire would seem to meet your desires without the concerns others here have mentioned.
