...anyone have any ideas for all weather-four season tires for the standard Mazda 6 wheels...alloy 17s???
I currently have the expensive but slick as snot Michelin...won't buy those tires again...I have usually had good luck with Goodyears beyond the original GTs...
GT+4 sweet but soft...
GA Nice all around
Eagle Aquatred...I liked 'em
LS harder compound but not really grippy
I see the Toyo Proxes4 are ranked highly here...for all season??? Anyone in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin area thoughts???

I am looking for an all season tire that is really nice and won't break the bank and wondered what all you here (if there is ANYONE here using their 6 as their everyday but not for gymkhana...

Thanks for any help you care to share...
Bill

If you lived somewhere where you didnt get much snow I'd say the Proxes 4, but since you're in Illinois I'd recommend the Ziex 512's.

Here's a conversation I just had in a PM with Tire Guy:

Hey Tire Guy,

...I'm basically looking for some winter/all season tires to put on my stock wheels. The sales clerk there suggested three different tires and I wanted to know what you think and if you have other suggestions.

215/50ZR-17 98W Proxes 4 - Seems like a lot of 6 owners run these and I was wondering how they handle the snow.
215/50R-17 95V Proxes TPT - I like the 65,000 tread warranty on these.
215/50R-17 91H Observe - Definitely more winter, I'm wondering if they're worth it.

Thanks for any info!

-Dave

Hey Dave,

Sorry for the slow response. If you're looking for strictly winter tires, then the Observe would be your choice. But I would think you'd want them only if there's snow on the ground most of the time. If you only get snow occasionally and you're driving on dry pavement most of the time, then go for the TPT. The Proxes4 is much weaker in the snow, so I wouldn't consider them. Hope that helps!

George

thanks for that response...I guess that crosses off the Proxes4 for me...I really HATE these Michelins...I have had cars with traction control and ABS but I have never had one where these comes on all the time...(like today for example) because of these tires...

I have Avon Tech m550a/s on my car at the moment, and they aren't bad (a lot better than the stock michelins) We put bridgestone re960as pole positions on my wife's car and she loves those, but they are about $160 each for the 6, which is why i went with the avons.

A couple other choices:

Yokohama Avid V4S - A few members have these as replacements for OEM and swear by them! It looks to be my replacements for my OEMs this spring.
Bridgestone Potenza G009 - Another good, inexpensive choice.
Continental ContiExtremeContact - A much-better all-season than the OEMs.

The Avids are great tires. Don't know anything about the G009's. The Contiextremes..... I know some people who LOVED them. They grip well and do very well in snow for an All-Season. However I also know that some people have had terrible issues with them flatspotting. If you've ever driven on flatspotted tires you know it can feel like the front suspension is fucked the pulling, vibrations, etc. can be really bad.
