I chipped my tire on a piece of concrete that fell away from a curb tonight. Took a finger-wide shaving off the sidewall of the tire. It's thin--maybe an 1/8th of an inch. But I need to know if the tire is safe or unsafe before I commute tomorrow morning! Any advice is welcome.

There's no bulging and no loss of air. I'm just worried it might not survive if I have to corner...

You should be more concerned with the way those wheels look! :P

My friend took about the same amount off of his right front tire, and he's been going for about 8k miles on it with no problems. You should be fine.

LOL! Yeah, that's why I never bought nice rims. My commute (75 miles one way) gets them beat up, no matter how careful I am.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow, but this sounds like an excuse to get those Falkens I want!

Sounds like a good reason to call in and tell em' you'll be a few hours late.

You should be fine, but I would stop at any tire shop and have someone take a glance at em'.

Based on what I see in the pictures, you should be fine. But it wouldn't hurt to take it to a shop and have them inspect it to be sure. And also, go to Pep Boys and get some curb feelers!

OK, thanks guys. I'll hold off on having them looked at -- I KNOW the tire shop's answer...lol.

I'm pretty good about the curb, but in this case, the curb had fallen away from the sidewalk and stuck out about 3 inches more than it normally does. And it was around a curve, so I couldn't see it.

As for new tires, my Bridgestones are at the end of their lives anyway. Getting Falkens in February!
