Im planning to get some 18's soon. my question is, is there a huge difference between 225/40 and 225/45's? The reason im asking is because I drive home at least once a month which is about 800-1000 miles round trip which is mostly highway and want to have my tires last longer. Im planning on getting all season tires, either the toyo proxes 4 or falken ziex 512's.

What difference are you talking about? Size, treadwear, price?

If you're talking about size, check out the tire calculator

In terms of treadwear, the size really has very little to do with how long they will last

if you are going to lower it... i'd recommend 225/40

Also, Falkens are generally narrower for their given width. My Falken Ziex 225/40 is just as wide as a 215/40 on other brand tires. About your question, i think the only difference in 40 and 45 thickness would be it's ride, 45 would be more forgiving on road bumps etc,.

Im just concerned more about the wear of the tire and I'm definately going to lower the car with the tein H springs. I will also be driving on some dirt road conditions, so would the 225/45's be better in terms of ride?

I've been running the 225/45s for a month now. I find the ride very similar to the stock 16's I had. Couldn't tell you how the 225/40 are.
