While I may be in for an eventual surprise, I'm still running my summer tires here in Michigan. We've had at least two heavy snowfalls, and I've had no problems getting around. Maybe it's just the area in which I live, but the streets are plowed, salted and dry almost immediately after the snow hits. At this point I'm glad I didn't spend money on winter tires. The most my tires have really seen is a bit of slush and water. Hope I don't end up kicking myself later.

HUZZAAAAH! Me too, 'cept I hate 'em. "Burnouts" in 3rd gear at idle are NOT cool. Traction absolutely sucks, even when it's totally dry out. The rubber on my tires is hard as a rock and they don't grip for crap. It's like having solid plastic tires.

I've got decent all-seasons in the basement (not mounted), but my commute is too short to overcome my laziness.

I mean, yeah, I don't like them. They're so damn hard. But I haven't had any problems getting around, so that's fine with me.

The problem with summers in the winter...is they work fine until you have to stop suddenly and have zero traction.

Then the saved money for not putting on all-seasons or snow-tires is countered by the body work bill.

Whatever happen to "all season" tires? Most of these are the radial type. I would have to check but I believe my Michelins are all season.

Totally agree. They're not safe. My commute, thankfully, doesn't take me over 35mph. In fact, I spend most of my time at 0mph. If it weren't for that, I'd of swapped tires, but if it ever gets really bad I'll take the metro.

All-season tires are mediocre in snow. If you want good traction in freezing temps or lower, you get snow tires. The right compound for the right environment is the key to maximum traction.
