Just seeing if anyone has any idea what happened to my rim the other day. I was driving ~75mph on the highway and heard a bump. First thought was that a tire blew out, but after listening and trying to feel any difference I concluded that I was probably imagining something. I only had a mile left til my destination so I continued and parked. When I got out I realized that the back driver side tire was flat and proceeded to change it. Once I removed the wheel I spotted the small hole in the tire, but exactly opposite the hole on the other side of the wheel, there was a 1 square inch hole blown out of my rim! I have the 18" RX8 wheels on my car and am currently looking for a replacement, but I was just curious as to what exactly caused a hole to be blown into the rim...why it is exactly opposite where the tire was punctured, and why did it drive so smoothly the rest of my trip if there was that big a hole in it? Interested to see your responses.
