Yesterday, I was stupidly inattentive while parking the car and I scraped my 18" Proxes 4 against the sidewalk . I scratched my Konig Reasons and ripped a small chunk away from the tire's pathetic rim protector. I think that the tire is still ok since the chunk was only from rim protector portion. Anyways, it is still hanging on and I'd like to glue it back for cosmetic reasons. Can anyone recommend any types of glue that I can use that won't damage the tire? Thanks.

I've never heard of tire glue.

Yeah, neither have I, but I was wondering if I could use a contact cement like that used to apply patches onto bicycle inner-tubes. Or some sort of super glue.

I guess you could, but I would be more worried about how it would affect the tire. How bad is it? How big is this chunk? Any pics?

if its merely superficial, i think any brand of super glue will work.

although unrelated, i have used superglue to re-glue the rubber tips of my running shoes back to the shoe itself. worked fine and held up.

just make sure you're care b/c the superglue will dry with a glossy finish.

Here's the pictures.

It is hard to tell from the pictures, but the rubber flap is cut away from the raised rim protector. I hope that the tire is still structurally ok, can someone comment?

Thanks.

Kind of hard to tell from the pics, but the general rule is, if the tire is cut more than 2/32" deep from the surface, the tire should be replaced. It looks close.

I think that it is less than that, but I'll measure it later with some calipers. But isn't the rim protector strip simply extra material on the sidewall? That's where I lost it from.

That's true. I'm talking about 2/32" deep from the surface, not counting the rim protector.
