The Kumho Ecsta Supra 711's that I had installed when I got my new wheels are now pretty much bald. The tire shop said they were down to 2/32s. Is this normal for a tire with ~16k miles on them? Seems pretty short to me. I've never been to the track and don't drive like a total crazy person.
I'll be moving to San Francisco in a couple of monthes and am going to have to get rid of my 6 . So what are some cheap tires that come in 215/45/17 that I can put on the car for the new owner?

Instead of using 215/45R17 again, why don't you use the standard size 215/50R17 for the replacement?
And the cheapest tires (according to tirerack) is Kumho ECSTA 711.

As I've said in other posts, the best case scenario in using too low of a load index is the tire will wear quickly due to the added stress/heat. Plus if you didn't rotate the tires regularly and make sure the alignment is correct, it just compounds the problem. Worst case is the heat will cause the tread to separate from the casing, possibly resulting in catastrophic tire failure. Even if you were running them at the max air pressure of 44 psi, you still wouldn't have enough load capacity (chances are you had 36-38 psi, which just isn't enough). Next time try as Jax suggests, 215/50R17 or 225/45R17 and make sure the load index is AT LEAST 91!

I thought tirerack calls the customer after an order to confirm everything with thevehicle? ie. sizes, offsets, and load indexes
