I bought a set of Falken GRB-FK451 225/40/18 tires from someone. I received them yesterday and I was checking the tires. Aside from some uneven treadwear, I noticed cracks in the side walls. Some are long, wide and deep. Is this ok or are the tires scrapped? Any ideas what might have caused this?

I really need your help on this. Thanks.

Did the seller mention these cracks before purchase or was it a suprise? I would be worried though, cracks in tires are never a good thing..

It was a surprise, the seller indicated that there was approximately 10,000 miles of wear on the treads, but nothing about cracks. We did the transaction through Escrow where it is specified that the tires do not have any structural damage. The seller seems like an honest individual, so I suspect that he didn't notice the cracks or was unaware that cracks are a problem.

Do you know what could cause this? The sidewalls where the cracks are seem perfectly fine.

If you can stick a coin in a crack that deep....I would NOT recommend driving on those tires.

Please do not drive on those tires. For your sake, and for your car's sake. I smell a refund.

Thanks for everyone's advice and concern. Don't worry, I won't be riding on those tires. I'll be bringing them in for an inspection tomorrow.

I wouldn't even waste the time man, they are damaged. Plain and simple.

You need to get whoever sold them to you to refund and pay for the shipping back (if it was shipped at all) and let them know about trade ethics. I don't see how they could NOT see / know they were there before the sale.

I hope it wasnt someone off this forum
