OK so last night my girlfriend asks me why don't people make tires in different colors. I said it wouldn't work. Who wants to buy colored tires? They would show dirt and grime too easily, blah blah blah.
She argued that those weren't good reasons, so I will ask everyone here. Why don't they make tires in different colors?
Now I am not saying I want different colored tires but is there a reason. I know on my mountain bike I used to have a green tire (yes only one).

OK help me win this argument and make me look smrt.

Pirelli makes them and I would take the stock Michelins over them.. they are a gimmick tire, not in any way even a decent performance tire. Who the hell is going to do a u-turn on a street to see how much of a yellow stripe they left on the road from their crappy tires?

It's been attempted several times by several manufacturers. The problem with colored tires is that whether or not it looks good is highly subjective. Most tire plants aren't set up to do small production runs, so if you're building a green or red tire, you better be absolutely sure that you think you have enough demand, plus building the right sizes, etc. It's a production nightmare.

Kumho has messed around with this concept:

Actually, the tire was the BFGoodrich Scorcher T/A. The funny thing is, BFG is owned by Michelin. (although you might be thinking of a yellow tire that Pirelli built)

BFG Scorcher T/A
