Unlike TNT, I hate drama, especially when it comes to my wheels. As many know, I have ordered Rota Slipstream 17x8.5s which are of a design similar to Spoon wheels and also lighter than stock 16s/17s.

Well the first place I ordered from was IntakeOne.com, very good customer service as they got with me within hours of the order being placed and told me they were out of stock and offered me them in Gun Metal, I said no and they told me it would be upwards of two months before I would get them, so I cancelled.

Next stop was RacingLab, again no Steel Grey.

Then finally at MachIII, they called me tonight:

"Yes sir, I am calling to advise you that we are out of stock of the Rota Slipstream 17x8.5 5x114.3 in Steel Grey. Can I offer them to you in Gun Metal, we have those in stock."

*Eyes roll* "No, but can you order them?"

"Yes, special order can take between 6 to 9 days."

"That will be fine."

"Also, you own a Mazda6, most are putting on 17x8 wheels, I couldn't get you to change your mind as they may not fit."

"No, 8.5 is what I want."

"Alright, thank you sir, your initial order will be cancelled and a special order will be started with a 50% deposit."

"Thank you, goodbye."

So it looks like I won't be fitting them until Spring Break or just prior to that.

Keep us posted. I'm jealous- you darn well know I've been eying these wheels for a while, but haven't justified the expense just yet. I think these slipstreams are going to be THE wheel to own for the Mazda6, especially now that SSR has gone under.

Can I convince you to go 245/40/17, too? In all seriousness, Falcon (RPM) just tried 235/45/17 on 17x8 +45 Kosei's, and he can't get the tire to stop rubbing. It's not the top of the fender that the tire is hitting, but the front of the fender- sort of behind the rear doors. By going with a 245/40/17, you're using a slightly smaller diameter, thus the 'sides' of the wheel well aren't going to be a problem anymore. The wider tire might actually fit better.

I'm surprised the guy from MachIII said most Mazda6 owners were going with 17x8. I'd of expected him to recommend a 17x7.5 Subzero, cause not many '6 owners have done a 17x8.

I am going with a 245/40R17, I saw 245/45R17 Ventus placed right next to the 245/40R17 and there is a considerable height difference, even from 235/45R17 too, though not as much.

Which is the other good thing about working for a shop. "Oh they don't fit? Well take them off and lets try a new set on."

One month and two emails sent to check up on the status of my order (Which inlcuded the original email from the sales rep stating "This is not a cancellation, but rather cancelling the original order and placing it on special order) later:

Hello

Did you cancel this order? As of now the only colors in the slipstreams 17x8.5 5x114 is bronze, black, gun metal, gold. This wheel also has a 48 offset.

I have called them, upon finding this email in my inbox after getting home from work. Left a message.

I hate the drama. I like the look of the slipstreams myself, when it comes time to find myself some rims I may have to consider these.

They are asking you if you canceled the order? Hilarious! Special order fiasco indeed, good luck!

I ordered my Rotas through Subydude.com. 700 for 4. They aren't all that aware of what will fit on a 6, so you basically have to tell them. I got the invoice this morning and was promised them shipped no later than Wed, but probably, likely, tomorrow.

In all fairness, they got in touch with me tonight on the phone. They explained the confusion, of how their system does not link the automatic internet order number to a manual special order. So it showed as cancelled.

They said they cannot check up on the status of a special order, I knew they probably could not, since we can't at work either with our SO's, I was just hopeful. He told me 60 to 90 days from the original order. So I am looking at least another month before I get them.

At least I can safely assume I will be the only one with a 6 with these wheels for quite sometime

Yeah I was looking at the selection on SubyDude.com too, lucky for us the new STi has 5x114.3.
