Hi all,

Does anyone know if 215/60/17 tires on 17" OEM rims would fit my 2004 Mazda 6?? (stock tires are 215/50/17,, dealer says NO but,,,)

Thanks in advance,

I'm going to go with no as well....there are some pretty tight tolerances up in there and I don't think you can go much taller at all especially in the front before contacting suspension components.

If I understand correctly how the tire numbers work, a 215/50 would be 107.5mm tall whereas a 215/60 would be 129mm. A jump of 21.5mm and if you look on top of the front wheels, if I recall correctly, part of the suspension comes VERY close to the tire where if you made it much taller, you'd be rubbing.

YO

Hey there, this may give you an idea on how tire sizing goes. Lets say you have a 215/60/17, the tire is 215mm in with at the side wall, the tire profile from the bottom of the bead to the top of the tire will be 60% of that wideth witch would be 129mm in pofile. On the 50 series tire the profile would total 107. Thats 22mm in frofile.

Thats a pretty big difference and will LIFT your car. I also think that everyone one this site would agree that the more tire side wall you have the less appealing the car will be.

This is not a good idea, kdes123. The overall diameter of the 215/50R17 is 25.5 inches and the overall diameter of the 215/60R17 is 27.2 inches. General guidelines allow for a 2% decrease and a 3% increase in overall diameter from stock to avoid any nasty complications. A 3% increase will allow you to go up to 26.2 inches tall. At 65 mph, your speedo would be off by about 4 mph. That would be the least of your worries, however, as you might have clearance issues and possible malfuntions of your ABS and/or other computer/speed related systems.
