Default Mount and balance

I'm getting a free set of 16" OEM rims, upgrading from my Hubcaps lol

However, the guy i'm getting them from works at Firestone (don't know how he got them for free, but I'm not gonna ask). The problem is... he said they charge $10 for each tire to balance.... and $10 for each tire to mount.... that equals $80 which seems like quite a lot of money... since i'm using my old tires. Is this for real? or am i getting ripped?

I'd definately say its a rip. My 4 wheel balance costs $30 for lifetime balance, $20 for 1 time at Tire Kingdom. And the one time I replaced 1 tire after getting the rotate and balance, they didn't charge me for the mounting or balancing or transferring it onto the new tire.

80 is not bad for a set of 16's. Remember you are getting the wheel too.

yeah, but he says this is the standard price at firestone. $80 for mount and balance? seems a little extensive. The rims are supposed to be free... so he shouldn't be inflating the mount and balance price.

It's high, but c'mon, you're still getting a sweet deal. Large chains usually charge up to around $15/tire to mount and balance. I actually paid $20/tire to mount and balance mine, but that was on a Hunter DSP 9700 Road Force balance. The few shops that have this machine will always charge more to use it rather than the regular computer balancer. It actually measure tiny irregularities and runout in the tires and rims and instructs the technician on how to orient the tire on the rim to minimize them, in addition to where to place the balance weights. A bit of overkill, but it ensures the smoothest possible ride. So if the Firestone dealer is using this machine it is a very fair deal.

That's what Pep Boys charges, unless you buy the tires through us and then mounting is free. Balancing is done on a Coates wheel balancer and a lifetime (of the tire) balance is placed on it for that price.
