I am looking to put a staggered setup on my 6. 18 x 8 up front and 18 x 9 in the rear. Local dealer says it will be no problem. Wondering if anyone has done this and seem any negative effects?
Thanks... |

18x9? You could barely fit 18x8s back there. No way is this going to clear everything.
And why wider on the rear? You do realize this is no a BMW right?

hehe, I know its not a beemer, but a guy can dream right ;-) I'm calling my car an M6, LOL.
the rims are a 43 mm offset, and the guy was very confident they would fit, but might have to roll the rear fender which is n/p. I just love that fat rear tire look :-) |

You'll have to roll your fenders and then buy a completely different car to put those rims on. :D There is no way the rears will fit w/o completely damaging your car.

I never understood FWD cars getting a staggard setup... i guess style over purpose. but you would have to get a custom 3 piece wheel that had a crazy offset for that to work... but if the place says so, try it. itll be all on them if it doesnt work...

I wish I had the money for a nice M5 or even an M3, but I dont :-) Given the wheels are only an inch wider, it really isnt that big of a difference. Most setups are an 18 x 8 front and an 18 x 10 rear.
ANyway, just looking to get some feedback... |

Though it has not been positively documented, I am rather confident an 18x9 wont work. An inch may seem a small difference, but consider this: 18x7.5 with +42 offset and 225/40 series rubs if you don't have your fenders rolled, but 18x7.5 with +52 offset and 225/40 series does not. That is only a difference of 10 mm (a.k.a. 1 cm, a.k.a. 0.4 inches). In the world of wheel geometries and fitments, even 0.4 inches can make all the difference in the world. With a 9" wide wheel, offset is a relatively moot issue, because regardless you will hit the inside (swing arm of the suspension) or the outside (fender of the wheel well). Thereby, the only way for it work would be to completely destroy the outside fender wells (i.e. the rear side panels), start from scratch, and have an entirely new "wide-body" kit designed for the vehicle.

awesome, looks like I need to mock up a wide body design :-) Thanks for the input Kid, I will get the guys at the wheel shop and do some measuring before I buy. I downloaded the spec image on this FAQ and will take it with me.
I'll let the group know if anything works out, thanks for all the great feedback! |

A staggered setup is a great idea.
But putting wider wheels/tires in the back is retarded. Have a problem with oversteer, are you? Or do you enter drifting competitions in reverse? Run 225/45/17, 17x8's up front and 215/45/17, 17x7.5's rear. That'd be a good setup. I'd be running a staggered setup if Falken or Kumho made the appropriate sizes for a 16x8. Nonetheless, I get plenty of rotation without the staggered setup.
