Ok...I currently have a 6s with appearance package and unfortunately the 16 inch wheels. They are alloy, not steel but still a bit too small for my liking. I think 18's look great but ride suffers and tire prices are a bit steep for decent tires so I have decided to compromise and get 17's to increase handling a bit over the 16's but retain somewhat decent ride and tire replacement costs. I have a limited budget of about $400 so I am limited to used stuff. I would ideally like to get a set a stock 17's but they are hard to come by, and when they do come for sale, sellers are often unrealistic about how much they should get for them. So, I began looking elsewhere and found a guy selling the stock 17's from the 04 3s. They are 17x6.5's with 205/50VR17 tires. I know the smaller size would throw off my speedo a bit (according to the tire calc on Miata.net, my speedo would show 60mph and I would be going 58.4 mph) bit besides a slight increase in sidewall flex, would there be any big negatives for going with this set-up or am I better off waiting and hoping to get a set of 17's from our 6 with the correct tire size and wider rim? I love the 6 but wanted it without leather (I live in Vegas and really don't enjoy sitting on black leather when it's 120 outside) and without the tall spoiler. I plan on ordering a lip spoiler and sport grill just to change the looks slightly so my 6 doesn't look like all the others around. I don't see many with the lip spoiler. I also plan to install either Eibach or H & R springs. Again, thanks for all thoughts, suggestions and advice.

If you can find someone selling them for that low, you might as well go for it. I'd make real sure the wheels were in good shape though, and there wasn't too many miles on the tires, as $400 for wheels/tires is pretty darn cheap.
I agree that people are looking for high prices on their 17s and Tires, but you have to remember that these wheels go for $120 each and the tires are something like $130 each as well. So, unless their high-mileage, well over $400 isn't too much to ask, since a single tire/wheel set can go for $250 |
