Default Snow Tires

So I just called up my tire place and inquired about snow tires for my 6. I would be going from the Sport Package 17" to whatever they recommended. They recommended specifically the Bridgestone Blizzaks, 16" on a steel rim with hubcabs. Total cost installed $662.50. Said it wouldn't affect my odo/speedo much, if at all. How's that sound?

Are these good tires? He said Bridgestone is known for good snow tires. I've never had "snow tires" specifically, that I can remember - I've always had all-season type tires on my other, older cars.

Tirerack or tires.com is bound to have cheaper options. I'm not going to check for you (boo!) - but maybe someone that has can tell us?

Wheels, tires, fluids and roof-mounted bike/ski rack. That's enough mods for me!

tires.com and some others have free shipping

you can buy cheap wheels at tires.com (discounttiredirect) or get your local tire store (may be a costco, sams club, or even a DTD!) to price match at least the tire prices.

They bulk/UPS ship it, and it isn't too much, Its around 7-10 per tire at places like vulcantire.com and tirerack.com. Worthwhile if you save 10-ish per tire. Often, no tax (online purchase) helps too!

Bridgestone Blizzaks are awesome tires! I just got a set for my car. I'm using the stock rims for it....come this spring I'm getting new tires and wheels! Can't wait.

Yea you can't get a better price! Get the road hazard insurance! That's an awesome deal!

What's the road hazard insurance cover? We already have some type of road hazard/towing deal thru our Mazda6 warranty, don't we?

Bridgestone Blizzaks are the best. I have them on my old 96 mustang and drove it for 6 years in Michigan's winter with no problem. Could not believe how wonderful they were on the RWD.

I also have Alphines from Michellins for 1 of the winter, they are sub-standard compares to the Blizzaks.

I'm glad to hear good words regarding the Blizzaks. Those are what I'm planning on getting as soon as it gets a bit colder and I have a little more $$$. From what I remember, they do come in a size that will fit the stock 17" rims (215/50-17 I think). I'm planning on new rims in the spring too, so I'm just going to use the 17's for winter.

You don't have tire insurance if you hit a nail....with the insurance you can get a new tire say if a nail hits your side wall. For the extra $62 dollars I would highly recommend it!

Tirerack has that same set-up, Blizzaks on 16" steel wheels with wheel covers, for about $550. For shipping, just select to buy on the web and go through the purchase process as far as you can before entering payment info. You should be able to see the shipping cost.

edit: Actually, $524 total, $565 with road hazard. And covers are optional at an additional $28. Shipping choices ranged from $59-$61 for me in MD (shipped from DE). Since Tirerack has a couple regional locations, they'll ship from the closest location that has the tires and wheels in stock. I'm looking at ~$585 shipped (no road hazard or wheel covers). Not bad!
