Try and understand that a typical tire company has like 50 different tires that they make for cars. Not all of them are going to be winners. Plus, most OEM/factory tires are lousy to begin with, so basing your judgement on what came with the car is not fair. Bridgestone makes several excellent tires, and their highest performing tires are amongst the best out there. |

YES, those are high performance all season tires, and yes they completely suck. not only that, but they are expensive as hell, not worth the money at all. on the other hand, ive had two types of falkens on my accord and never had a complaint. they are cheaper, and in my experience a better tire than the expensive ass bridgestones i have now. now, anymore useless comments about MY vote on falken? |

Hi Guys and Girls,
I see there is a distinct lack of knowledge about OEM tyres. As a ex-production car racer, you soon arrive at an appreciation for some high performance OEM tyres when driven in comparision with equal rated aftermarket tyres from the same manufacturer. I'm not going to "piss in your pocket" 60-70% of OEM tyres are installed due to costings and inadequate suspension components. For example, when I was last racing at Phillip Island (Australia) I spoke to the company representative of the suspension company that provides the "shocks and strut inserts" for Australia's number 1 selling family car. The shocks are sold to the car manufacturer for $7.50 each .... need I say more. In the case of the Mazda 6, the OEM tyres are right up there in the quality stakes. Just remember OEM tyres have to meet a vast selection program: 1. They must meet milage minimums 2. They must meet maximum towing weight requirements for the vehicle 3. They must have minimum road noise to assist in the "drive-by" noise standards 4. They must be a compromise between handling and passenger comfort 5. They must be capable of extended offroad (dirt) driving So next time anyone knocks OEM tyres - just think if your high performance tyre can meet all of these objectives, I'ld love to see a P-Zero cover 3,000 plus kilometres of dirt road. But back to the question. I've had the Mazda 6 (2.3 litre) on the race track twice now and the OEM tryes have performed extremely well (air pressures set at 42psi). I let a none racing experienced driver do 8 laps in the same car and his lap times were 10-20 seconds slower ...... driver control far outways tyre selection. This is important, buy a tyre that matches your driving ability and needs .. not your fashion and image ego. The two tyre manufactures you mentioned both produce excellent tyres along with 5-6 other manufactures to suit the Mazda 6. I personally run the Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position, but I don't tow trailers, drive on dirt roads, carry a family and all their baggage and don't care about excessive road noise. I also don't expect to get more than 10,000-15,000 kms from these tyres either. It's a very objective question ... tyres. Do your research and make an informed judgement not something just based on a brand name. Good Luck ... Warren |
