I have one, a Uniden Bearcat 100XLT (I think?) I bought it like 8 years ago but it works great. You should look for something that picks up 800 mhz frequencies along with the regular ones.

I don't think that they're worth it anymore. Most agencies are going digital. My department just went digital and to hear us you need a $150 chip just for this department. I'd say about half the departments in my area are digital but I don't know about elsewhere.

Hey WhoDiddy where in NC are u? I just got back from Raleigh the other day. I drove down Rt.85, talk about a nice straightaway. I'm not too worried about the NC police as a went by one at 100mph and my detector went off yet he didn't even pull out.

Do a Google for "<your town> police frequencies". If they show a freqency of 800 mhz or higher, than it's digital. If not, you can pick it up with any scanner.
