I have been noticing some squeaking and creaking in the front end lately. It is not a brake squeak, more like a suspension creaking.
The car drives fine, and doesn't shake or shutter on the highway, and the brakes work good. I definitely hear it at low speeds like when going over speed bumps or even when pulling up to the drive through at McDonalds. I haven't been too worried about it, but it is on my list of things to check into. Any ideas or where to look first? The car has 181K on it.

Might be your bushings.

I noticed the same thing with my car, but never looked in to it. I have Eibach springs and Koni FSD shocks, so I figured it could have something to do with bushings. The car still handles great, just creaks sometimes. RockAuto has bushings and they are pretty inexpensive. Could start with replacing the bushings for the control arms and it only would set you back $20 or $30. They might need to be replaced at the amount of mileage anyways.

Let's say I don't replace them, will it damage anything, or will it just be a noisy car?

Well, if you look at the anti torsion link on the V6 models, those would fail because the bushing was weak, which caused the engine to sway back and forth. I would say that eventually, a bushing or two may break apart causing the component to flop around loosely. Mine have been squeaky for over a year and everything is still fine. Alignment is good, car handles great... You probably have time, but I'd suggest getting them replaced for peace of mind. I'm going to replace mine sometime after I get an engine in my car.

I had the same problem took it to a suspension shop and they found water in the ball joints. try replacing grease with a hypodermic grease gun in ball joints. I was told if it got much worse the control arms would need to be replaced. hasnt squeaked since I replaced grease. Hope that helps
