http://www.pbase.com/rsrock/oil_catch_can
I found this last week, and I wanted to do something about the lack of PCV valve on my MS6, I recently installed boost tubes, ets tmic, and removed my entire intake and cobb TIP and man, there was alot of oil residue in there. Weird thing is my car does not smoke...but yesterday I went to homedepot, spent $30 and installed this, everything with the car seems fine, drove the car for about 50 min. this morning and checked it out, saw no oil in the bottle or the lines as of yet. But this seems like a nice simple fix, still free flowing from the valve cover to the MS CAI, but alot more rubber line and the catch can. Here is a pic. Excuse the lack of mounting bracket, LOL I was lazy and used steel reinforced tie wraps for now.

Been done a million times on a zillion cars and eventually fails. Just doesn't hold up for use in a car. The housing will crack soon enough.

our cars don't lack a pcv valve, its just not off the valve cover. its off the crankcase behind the intake manifold.

I figured this much... i didnt think it would last forever, just more of an experiment to see how much oil is making its way into the TIP. It says right on the bottle(max temp 130 degree's) and I am sure that the engine bay will get over that in the summer time. QUOTE (bova80 @ Sep 11 2009, 11:09 AM) Quote:
sorry I mis-spoke, I realize that area is where most put the real catch cans as well, and that it too is a problem area, just wanted to do this experiment because all the oil I saw was before the intake manifold. QUOTE (late8 @ Sep 11 2009, 11:09 AM) Quote:
yes.

Your best choice is VTA on the valve cover thru a real catch can.
I tried that PTP thing and my car still smoked, but it made me think about the whole situation more. I've had a 2nd OCC for a long time, but always hooked to the intake pipe like stock. I just vented the OCC to air with a filter and plugged the intake tract hole. I haven't smoked since. |

yeah that ptp thing for $25 doesnt sit well with me, I dont think restricting the flow of crankcase pressure is the best idea. I think I will run this current setup for a couple weeks, then I will grab a real filtered catch can to put in its place, but I think your right, a catch can with VTA would be a step in the right direction.

Yeah, I guess I forgot to tell you guys, but it started smoking with the PTP thing right before I left and I was seeing weird knock like a few other guys. I pulled it out and bought a filter and went VTA the day before I rolled out. Been working great so far.
