I was recently rear ended, I didn't get any dents (?) but I am now left with black scuff marks from the other cars front licence plate holder. I have tried scrubbing but that does not help. Is there any product that will clean it off without damaging the clear-coat?

That's possibly the plastic UNDER your paint on your bumper. Only way to fix THAT is a repaint.

If not, get a POLISH and I hope you're in shape or have a porter cable and a foam pad.

Crap, I'm not in shape so I'm screwed. I'll just slap a bumper sticker over it and call it a day then.

Well, hopefully by now you've figured out how to remove the scuff marks. Meguiar's Scratch-X works well.

My story: Today, unfortunately I was rear-ended by someone at a highway traffic light. He thought the traffic started to move, so while he was looking to his left (I happened to be watching my rear view mirror while stopped), he accelerated and hit me. Pulled over into a store parking lot. Saw the scuff marks as well as a punched-in scuff mark from his license plate holder bolt. It didn't bother me so much, actually (but played the part of being concerned) ... instead of having to go through the insurance companies I suggested he pay me $100 on the spot and we pretend nothing ever happened. He had a 'nice' car and I figured he'd be able to afford it.... and he agreed.

So, I fixed almost all the scruff marks with Scratch-X that I happened to have bought & used yesterday for a hairline scratch on a door. That left only a small bolt-sized indentation, which is not visible unless I crouch down. I covered that with touch-up paint as best I could. Thankfully I don't need a new bumper.

$100 bucks is on the low side, lol. But at least you got some money. Some d-bag bumper tapped me when parallel parking. I unfortunately did not see him, and no note was left on my windshield. The Last Detail fixed up the scuffs and one dent for like $140. But that doesn't even include time wasted and not having a car for a day...

Conclusion: You were too nice.
