Just finished claying my car, and I was using the Mothers California Gold Clay Bar Paint Saving System. Inside, it also contains a "Carnauba Cleaner Wax." I never used this one before, but now that I have some time- should I use this "cleaner wax" first and then proceed to my Meguiars NXT Tech Wax? Or will it not make much difference, and I should just go straight to NXT?

Cleaner wax isn't really wax. It is, but it isn't full on wax. You should use NXT tech wax. If you want to get really detailed, go to http://www.autopia.org/ and read thru the guides. Lots of people have different techniques so just look thru them and see which one fits your time and willingness.

NXT doesn't have a whole lot of cleaners in it, so if your paint needs some cleaning or a light polishing, then you would need something stronger. The cleaner wax is really mean to be used as a one step product. It boils down to your personal standards. I would at least look into the Mother's or Meguiar's three step system (omitting the last step for NXT) if you want the car to look good. Otherwise, use the cleaner wax first, then apply the NXT on top for additional protection. It won't look as good, but it will be protected.

Watch your trim when using the cleaner wax as it will stain.

What do you mean by watch the trim? I did end up doing the "Carnauba Cleaner Wax" first, and then followed that with NXT. It looks ok, I'm not sure I see that much difference from when I just when clay -> NXT instead of this time, clay -> carnauba cleaner wax -> NXT...

But, in the end, I suppose my car is cleaner? And it just took an extra 45 minutes or so...

The cleaner wax that comes in that clay bar kit is mostly to lube the clay bar a bit. It isn't a stand alone wax that I would use. If you clay bared then going to NXT should be fine because you just cleaned the paint with the bar. I use the NXT 2.0 liquid wax, seems to last a long time and is easy on and easy off.

Well, there was a quick detailer in the kit that was meant to lube the clay bar; then there is also that cleaner wax I mentioned. The one I have is this:

Just an FYI, the Clay won't make it really look better. It does remove all the contaminants in the paint that makes it rough and hard to polish. It will feel amazingly different to touch after claying it though. I have the same kit and I also didn't use the cleaner. I went straight to NXT and it has held up well. I'm really not a fan of the NXT though. I will go back to the 3 step kit soon or possibly switch brands to something else. The NXT might be a good wax, but it doesn't do much for depth and wetness on a silver car at all.

Hmm, interesting. I clay bar'd my silver 6 today and followed it up with a nice coat of the NXT paste and I thought it looked fantastic.

I did mine last week with the clay. Then a coat of the Cleaner wax followed by the NXT.
Here is a pic of the results.

I used Meguaiar's clay kit and then eagle one nanowax after I was done. The results were good but I should of added an extra coat of wax or two.
