What kind of washing detergent should i use when washing my microfiber and drying towels?
The reason i ask is; i baby my car like no other and give it frequent washes. im extremely gentle when wiping it dry and waxing, however i noticed a lot of tiny hairline scratches on many areas of the car (especially the hood) under certain lighting. I keep my towels extremely clean and always make sure there are no rocks in it, etc. So im pretty confused as to why im getting small scratches in my paint. Im guessing the microfiber has become more harsh with frequent washing and is scratching the paint. i am currently using Tide powder detergent.

Also don't use the powder. It can somtimes leave some grains of detergent on the towels and that can lead to scratching on the paint surface. Also try to use a detergent that has no scent and no pretreaters.

i use xtra liquid detergent, but if your worried that yours are getting too rough just get some new ones. I bought a 12 pack (or mabye it was 15) of MF hand towels at target for about 6 bucks and they work nice.

It may have something to do with the way you are using the towels. You shouldn't drag them around the paint, instead blot them to absorb the water. Whenever you drag anything over the paint you are bound to make tiny scratches. Time to look at a good polishing to get back to the mirror finish. I use a water blade to wipe off 75 % of the water and then blot with a waffle weave towel.
