Mazda 6 wagon V6 5 speed manual 2005, 48,000 kms, very clean. Purchase option in June 2008 is about $14,500. Is it worth it?

Doesn't anybody have an idea on this. I'm considering a 2009 mazda 6 and my dealer seems to be lowballing me on the value of my sport wagon. I've surfed the net and prices are all over the place (range from $12K to $20K for similar model-mileage).
Appreciate your help.

Rgds,
Mruss

So I dont know how true this is, but a few different people have told me. Try and deal directly with MAZDA not the dealership and you can actually talk the price down. Because they won't get what they would from you from anyone else. I know 3 people that claim they have talked 4 grand down from their lease end purchase price on a Lexus, Toyota and BMW.

I asked my buddy at a dealership about it, and he says it makes perfect sense since the true owner of the car is whoever manufactured it, and NOT the dealership.

So if you can get mazda to give it to you cheaper then you win.

The way to approach them is to say that you are interested in keeping the car, but believe that their price is to high, and get the value of the car from KBB and do your best. My lease is up in 2010 so I am still a while off of find out if this is true.

GOOD LUCK

dealers will always rape you on trade in prices, because they know what they can resell it for, and want to make as much as possible when they do, meaning they want to screw you over, and of course, will try to boost the price of what they are selling.

as far as the lease purcase offer. i would look up prices on NADA.com and check local listings and see if the price is in the same range as what they are asking

You are correct, lease end buy outs are negotiable in some cases, especially if the current value of the vehicle is less than the buyout. In some cases however, leasing companies carry a blanket residual insurance policy. This means that if they have a residual set at $14,000 and only get $13,000 for the car at auction, they are covered for the $1,000 loss by the policy. Not sure if Mazda does this, but I know for a fact that American Honda Finance Corp carries this type of policy.....therefore no residual negotiations with Honda.

I have an automatic 2004 wagon and was looking at values on it a while back, and $14,500 sounds high for a 2005, especially for a manual IMO

Thanks to everyone for your help and advice. Didn't know about the Nada site and this was alot of help. You are right about the residual value insurance that some of the lease co.s carry. I know at least a few insurance co.s have taken a real beating on this stuff before. I really like the convenience of the wagon and given the low mileage would like to keep the car. Happy with the preformance with exception of the brakes (wear, fade when hot). I will take a shot at calling Mazda finance and see if they are willing to negotiate. I'll let u know how it turns out.

Can you please update us on the conversation/outcome with Mazda. I am in exactly the same situation as you are.

Thanks
