Mazda allows price haggling on factory web site Automotive News July 6, 2007 - 7:11 pm Mazda North American Operations has upgraded its Internet site so that car shoppers can obtain a price quote from a dealer without leaving their desk. Most factory sites force interested buyers to navigate to a dealership's site, and will only list the suggested sticker price. However, the mazdausa.com site allows web surfers to contact a Mazda "shopping assistant" via a live web-chat session. The shopping assistant is a Mazda employee. With help from the personal shopper, web surfers can configure a vehicle, select a dealership, search vehicle inventory, obtain a price quote, schedule a sales appointment and get financing information. Once a price is agreed upon between the customer and the dealer, the personal shopper arranges for the final paperwork to be signed and the vehicle to be delivered at the dealership. The program will go live on July 9.

I wonder if they will ever do something like this for parts rather than just cars.
