So I was looking at getting an 06' MS6 with 16k kms. They wanted $35,900 CDN (That's about 30,900 US), and then I flipped through the Buy/Sell section to see some guy getting ripped on for trying to sell his MS6 for $22,000 US (About $25,600 CDN) with 7k miles, and all the same options.

I played around with the Mazda Canada and Mazda US sites, and the same MS6 is around $38,000 (CDN) in the states, and $42,470 (CDN) in Canada. (All figures include local taxes from Alberta, and Ohio)

The only visible difference I can see is that you guys pay $595 "Destination" and we pay $1,275 "Freight & PDE"

I searched through the forums and found that a lot of people are paying significantly less. Canadians get no rebates at all from what I've read, right?

It's not that you get "ripped off" in Canada, it's that there's far fewer MazdaSpeed6s up there and the supply isn't hugely greater than the demand. That's why the MS6s are so cheap here and why Mazda has to load them up with rebates to get them off the lots.

No worries, it is easy enough to buy one states side and import it. European prices are also way up there.

It might be much easier to buy a slightly used one because some US dealers are not supposed sell for export. Of course, you could always tell them you are moving down under NAFTA and then... change you mind? It will easily pay for the vacation as you yourself noted.

Been there, done that!

Was there a difference in finance rates? In Canada, its 1.9% over 60 months and 2.4 or 72 months - I doubt the US is offering those rates plus the cash discounts. On top of that, the dealers are discounting marginally in Canada (1 to 2K). If you intend to finance, the Mazda rates are excellent . For example, if you were to finance 42K at 6.5% vs the offered 1.9, you would be paying over 7K in ADDITIONAL interest with the higher rate.

The difference is more evident on the Speed 6 because of the huge discounts that get offered in the states and not in Canada.

But ALL cars cost SIGNIFICANTLY more in Canada. Go to honda.ca and honda.com, etc. etc., any brand. It's just the way it is, cars cost a lot more in canada.

I toyed with the idea of buying my Speed 6 in the states, probably would have saved me around $10,000, but I didn't want to deal with any of the red tape and hassles, daytime running lights, etc.

We do kind of get ripped off, but we still have it a lot better than Europe or Asia.

Canada gets ripped off? Yes, always and severly. Also, regarding the car you were looking at for what it's worth I bought my '07 GT (leather, sunroof) for $500 more, new. Walk from that deal!
