I have a business trip next week to Sacramento for a week, than another one the week after that. What is there to do in Sacramento? Any cool places to hit up at night? What about the weekend? I'm staying in a hotel near the Arden fair mall for a reference point.

Sacramento is the most boring city to live, work and play. Ask any former Sacramento Kings (NBA team) player and they will tell you that if you get traded to Sacramento, your days are numbered.

There's no good clubs anymore because the cops sit outside after last call and hawk anything that moves on wheels.

No redlight district to gawk at hookers but we have our share of "juice bars" but it costs bucks to get in. Downtown K Street Mall is a public urinal for the homeless.

I lived in Sac for over 30 years and nothing's changed. It's considered a bedroom community where people leave Sac to have fun.

It's two hours from the San Francisco where you can have a lot of fun, 2 1/2 hours from Tahoe where you can ski, snowboard, etc. and three hours from the Nevada's legal brothels where anything goes.

Sorry to put such a negative view of the town but as Phil Jackson, coach for the LA Lakers put it, "There's a reason this town is called a "CowTown".

Netmonk, I live near down town and there's plenty to do. A cab ride to mid-town would be really cheap from where you are staying and would be well worth it. Most of the places that will be worth going to in the Arden Fair area will be found on Fair Oaks Blvd.

Check here for night life: http://www.newsreview.com/sacramento/Home
Couple of my favorite watering holes are: The Fox and Goose, and The Zebra. Mid town between 8th and 28th, J and S are full of fun old dives and brew-pubs. Some have been open since the 1800's.

For decent food reviews look here: http://www.sactownmag.com/home.php You'll be able to find a copy at the Barnes and Noble at Arden Fair. They have a fairly recent selection of restaurants. The truth is, Sac is surrounded by some of the most amazing produce in the nation and we have some stellar restaurants taking advantage of that fact.

Old Town is something to see. The storefronts are are vintage, and the Train Museum is amazing. There are also a few good restaurants there.

It will be chilly up here, so dress for it. Sac is a great walking town when you get to mid-town and is easy to navigate. The streets are numerical and alphabetical with the exception of "M" which is Capital. This entire area is littered with bars, clubs, and restaurants.

A few Sac classics:
Zeldas pizza
Zocalo mexican
Mikuni sushi

I'm going to put together some more stuff for you over the next few days. The real beauty of Sac is the location. We have wine regions on three sides of us, the bay area a short drive away, and wildly varying topography to the east.

If you'd like a tour, drop me a PM. I'll be home all week, with time to kill. I'd be happy to show you around a bit and grab a beer. The News and Review calendar listings and restuarant listings will point you in the right direction.

Look here: http://www.midtowngrid.com/wiki/view/Grid+Maps and pull up the eating grid and the nightlife grid, and you'll see that many of the things are all within walking distance of one another.

Some other resources:
http://www.sacvibe.com/clubs/
http://www.sacramentolifestyle.com/index.html
http://www.sactosaurus.com/index.shtml

There's a lot of history here and a lot of things to see and do in the general vacinity.

Hope that this helps a bit. I'll help you see, eat, and drink the best that Sac has to offer.

Damn Sac! Thanks for that info. I'm deff going to try to hit up at least some of those spots. I leave for Sacramento Tuesday morning and will hopefully be able to go out before I have to leave on Friday. In not, I'll be back in March for 2 straight weeks.

I'll be home this week. I fly out for work on the 24th and won't be home until March 26th. So, shoot me a PM if you think you'll have some spare time in the evening and I'll show you around town.

Netmonk,

How'd it work out for ya? Hope that you found something to do in Cow-Town. LOL.

It sounds like you'll be here through the weekend on your next trip. Plan a day trip from Sac. Hit Berkely, go to Amador and sip wine, head up to Chico State and party, ski and gamble at Tahoe. Plenty to do within an hour or two hours from Sac.

I wanted to add another restaurant to your list:

You can thank me if you have fun there and get a good meal.

Hope that you had some fun.

It was pretty good. We found this mexican restaurant in old town Sacramento that was pretty cool. I'm hoping I have the energy to hit up the night spots since I was told that I'd be working 12hr shifts with a one day break between days. I'll also be working the graveyard shift on some days.

Thanks for asking though.

Try to hit up Ink if you get the chance, good stuff.

I'm thinking that you were at La Terrazo in Old Sac, a decent place no doubt. Do yourself a favor and try Zocalo on Capital next time.
