If hes using a KLZE (jdm 2.5L) and using a USDM computer, hes gonna get a CEL. Probably for no EGR.
KLZE has ~200p, quick too. I have one in my MX-3.

actually a mx3 owner here in town named timsmx3 did consecutive dyno pulls on a k8 mx3 ecu, probe 2.5 ecu, and a ZE chipped ecu, and the mx3 ecu/maf on a ze motor put out the most HP with the cleanest run. back in the day, he was one of very few KL'd mx3's in the 12's. his current DD did a high 13 n/a last year even.
because of him, and another local with a KL swapped escort, ive learned alot about these engines. really are a great motor.

The reason the MX-3 k8 ECU pulled harder, was because w/ the k8 ECU, it tends to run a little richer. If he had the correct KLZE ECU w/ proper VRIS points it would have the power, propper A/F settings too.

nice cars. ive seen Shaodome's in person a few years ago. im a mod on probetalk. but all my main intrest in the older turbo 1st gens. my roommate is cityracer, with what is, probably the highest HP turbo 2.0 FS 2nd gen probe out there.
