2019 Volvo S60 To Be Built In USA

On the heels of the recent reveal of the Volvo V60 wagon, the S60 sedan has now been unveiled. It will be produced in South Carolina. The baseline Momentum will come equipped with Volvo's forced induction turbo 2.0L slated to produce 250HP. Pricing on the Momentum will start at $36,795. On the other end of the spectrum will be the T8 Polestar Engineered, which will add a hybrid platform and a supercharger. This will push output to 415HP and 494lb ft of torque. While most models will offer traditional purchasing options, the Polestar Engineered will only be offered as a monthly subscription.

Anyone else here think that the baseline Momentum could offer a threat to the Signature Reserve line?

For me, No. Seems like you're either a Volvo fan or you're not, with most people being not. I'll be a little surprised if they gain any additional momentum (pun intended) here in the States simply because they're produced here.

Only time will tell of course. I do wish them well.

Interesting concept with the "subscription" method. Sounds like a lease to me though. Good looking car for sure.

It could be depending on what comes standard on the base model. When I looked at Volvo's (and most other luxury brands) you had to add expensive option packages just to get the car in parity with the 6 Signature. That S60 that starts at $37k quickly becomes $45k when you start adding even simple things like heated/ventilated seats, Homelink, safety/tech, upgraded stereo, etc. It makes the 6 Signature (and even the Accord Touring 2.0t) show it's value when you compare option for option to the lux cars.

The other problem with Volvo is parts cost.

I've owned two in my driving life, and both came with surprises in the form of ordinary maintenance components (e.g. brake rotors and pads) that were stunning in their price tags.

God help you (you're gonna need it) if you're out-of-warranty and something that's NOT an ordinary wear item breaks.

If by "copy", you mean making a sedan, then I would say yes.

Mazda 6 and Volvo S90 are both mid-sized sedans but that is about where the similarities end.

There are actually several upper end brands that offer similar subscription models. The subscription includes insurance and scheduled maintenance. The memberships can be paused or cancelled at any time and include white glove delivery of the vehicles to your residence. Two examples below:

BOOK by Cadillac subscription model. You can exchange your vehicle up to 18 times a year and they come with 4G LTE Wi-Fi, XM radio subscription and Apple CarPlay. However, it's only available in LA, NYC and Dallas

Mercedes Benz Collection subscription model. The service runs $3000/mo but is a white glove concierge service. Currently available in Philly and Nashville.

It's all an experiment to try and find more profit as tastes are constantly changing. It's also a way to woo a customer who doesn't want a long term commitment to a specific model. You know, if you have money to blow for such a convenience.

Outside some of the sedans from the Transformer movies, it's becoming hard to tell most of them apart. I don't believe anyone copies anyone. If anything they want to have their own style/look/personality.
