Glad I Chose the 6 Over an Altima

Don?t be Gentle, It?s a Rental: Nissan Boosts U.S. Sales Numbers by Flooding America?s Fleets - The Truth About Cars

It's amazing that nowadays the top 6 cars & crossovers dumped onto rental fleets are all Nissans and Toyotas. What a reversal.

Only Japanese car that’s ever left me stranded by the side of the road was a rental Nissan Altima. And that CVT transmission is a thing of joy to drive too. No thanks.

Can't resist commenting, since I had 2 Nissans in my driveway until recently.
I traded my 2006 Altima for my new 2017 Mazda 6 last month. I didn't consider the new Altima at all. No way.
I still have my 2002 Pathfinder.
Both vehicles were/are excellent. Unfortunately, Nissan went down the crapper after they were built.
The Altima started it's downward slide in 2007 with the new design. That's when the CVT came along. Garbage car since then.
The last good Pathfinder was in 2004. They did a redesign in 2005, and have sunk to new lows with the current model.
The new Pathfinder ranks in the bottom 5 new cars that owners regret buying.
I also had a 2003 Sentra Se-R, which was a nice little pocket rocket. The redesign in 2007 sunk that car. Again, they've been garbage ever since.
I totally get the Altima rental thing too.
I was in Florida for a month back in October/November, and they were everywhere. Same ugly face on every corner.
I'd hate to think of the residual value of these things a few years down the road. Zero probably.
I was a real Nissan fanboy at one point, so it's disheartening to see what they've done to the brand. Shameful.

Maxima is a different class of car. Maxima has a face only a mother could love. Maxima has a CVT that makes one wish for death while driving it. Maxima doesn't have the road manners of the 6. Altima is all of that and less. Drove one of the rentals in question a couple of years ago and was left emotionless. Transportation, nothing more.

and the 6 is exciting to drive?

The first time I test drove it, I was disappointed at how slow it is, but I liked the looks and features, so I bought it

Only reason you don't see the 6 in rentals, is because is a vehicle that doesn't come from a brand known for super reliability. Not only that, people don't forget the Mazda/Ford relationship. The regular average folk, would rather rent a Toyota, Nissan, Honda over everything else, because they have the reputation of being more reliable than all other brands, even though, this is not the case anymore. It is irrelevant if the Mazda 6 is just as reliable as Camry. Companies and business will cater to what most people prfer. Whether these people are stupid or ignorant enough to fall for the Toyota myth, is also irrelevant. Companies do things that makes them money.

The Mustang and Camaro are on rentals too and these are not only way faster, but much more exciting to drive and to look, get more attention, etc than a family sedan from Mazda.

So, no, the Mazda 6 is not on rental because is so cool and unique, is because the average joe doesn't care about Mazda. Nobody would choose the Mazda 6 on the rental places, when they have the Camry, Altima, Accord and they believe these vehicles to be more reliable.
