You seeing this, Mazda?

2017 Ford Fusion V6 Sport

Unless Mazda steps up it's game, and become serious about Zoom-Zoom with an upcoming MS6, it looks like I'm getting a Blue Oval.

I hate saying it as well. Same power and price as a Focus RS but in a larger car. More power then the last Fusion sport too, the only other car I considered over my MS6 purchase.

One thing will detract me from it. An Ode to Ford:

Know manual, know sales
No manual? No sales.

I do NOT see Ford offering a MT on this, so I have zero interest.

I am right there with you, no manual, it isn't even a consideration.

It looks cool and ill be honest the fusion got me liking this class of vehicle but the sport is starting at $10k above what you would pay for a touring. If i wanted a Ford, For 34-37k i could just about get a Mustang GT and quit messing around. Hell i might as well just go all the way and get a BMW 4 series, now those look tight!!

That's not a bad starting price for that horsepower and AWD. The car I replaced with my 2016 Touring had around the same specs (G37X) and there are not many choices in the marketplace for reliable 300+ horsepower AWDs. The Q50 would have been a logical choice for me, but they left me cold. The Mazda 6 (in manual) was so much more entertaining to drive. It's somewhat of an experiment - I've not had a FWD car for some time. I usually replace my daily drivers every 1 to 2 years and if I decide at that time that I really prefer AWD, I will definitely take a look at the Fusion Sport.

Both are good choices, but both are only 2-doors.

The 3-series, otoh, start around $35K with AWD, but good luck finding a base version, since most (if not all) 3-series on the lot are optioned past $40K.

I'm not saying the Sport is the ultimate answer for a kick-ass 4-door sedan, but at least Ford is stepping in the right direction, unlike Mazda.

I totally get what you are saying and you are right. I think (hoping) mazda is figuring itself out still, post Ford era.

I look at mazda like this... Im a musician so i will use this analogy

....most bands that musicians like or are heavily influenced by arent mainstream and all over the radio, but those mainstream bands in someway try to emulate or are influenced by the others

I look at mazda like that. Not a huge seller and they kinda set the bar with the 3rd gen but now other cookie cutter models are starting to emulate. Case in point. I saw a new altima the other day from afar and swore it was a 6. I was a little upset about it lol ... The new civic... The new camry even looks edgier.....And the fusion just upped the anty . So now they need to respond in a big way e.g. 2.5turbo or whatever

Here's how I see it. Mazda tends to go towards balance. I think their days of 'zoom zoom' are on hold. Look at all the rumors that circled 2yrs ago about Mazdaspeed 3 making a splash in 2017. If nothing is shown at the Detroit NAIAS, I don't see it happening.

Everyone has seem to forgotten that just a few years ago gas prices in the US exceeded $4.50/gal. Now that it's down to $2 (or less in some places) people seem to forget that gas prices are volatile. It could very easily soar back to $4/gal or more in a matter of weeks. Then what? All these performance models and SUVs will be tossed to the side again.

I personally applaud Mazda for taking the pragmatic approach and trying to strike balance. Anyone can make a go-fast car with a bunch of tech goodies and style. But $37K for a midsize 'homogenized' car with add-ons? I'll pass. Especially without a manually operated clutch pedal.
