Form what I've heard from a lot of car mags, it's much more fun-to-drive than the 3-series. It's also what the BMW enthusiasts have been wanting for years, since the 3-series (to them) has gotten overweight and soft. I don't think it's a 2002, since it still weighs a fair amount, but it's a step in the right direction.
Personally, I've yet to drive it, but it looks to be a blast. But for the $$$, I'd pass. Despite the smaller size, it's still pretty expensive, not much of a discount from the 3-series...

Top Gear tested the 130i hatchback. They felt it was overpriced and undersized (compared to the GolfR33). I've seen it at the Auto Show, thing is waaay to small and the interior looks cheaper as well.
FWIW go to BMW's website and you can price a 135i out... watch how easily with options you can pass the 40k mark

ya but the hatch is just ugly
BMW's are just over-priced in general. Including their maintenance. |

Edmunds.com also tested the 135i.
They like it, but a comparable equipped 335i is only several thousand dollars more expensive.
