What is your feelings on the Signature’s Bose stereo system?
I was considering some form of upgrade, maybe a quality subwoofer or upgrading the speakers.
My issue is that I don’t want to change out the head unit or have anyone digging around the dash.
Is it worth the speakers and subwoofer upgrade?

Also, with no CD player, what format of music do you find gives the best clarity and original music integrity?
Spotify, Siri’s/XM and files from phone are so compressed - the sound quality is poor.
Find myself listening to mostly local FM.

Imo, the best upgrade to get the most out of it would be to add an amp. Best speakers/sub in the World are no good without adequate power.

I'm a little behind the times when it comes to most of the different options but my Daughter recently downloaded some songs on a thumb drive and they sound pretty good. That's coming from someone that thinks the Sat radio sounds pretty good. The thumb drives are fairly inexpensive also.

Without question it would benefit from decent aftermarket speakers and a dedicated sub. While I had moderately-high hopes with this system when I first got the car, as I listen to it more and more I only start to become further disappointed unfortunately. Here's the thing, my general feeling for this system is it's for most people who don't really care too much about audio but still what something better than average. It's definitely better than most standard systems you'll find in other vehicles, but at the same time it's not exactly a Harman/Kardon system either. I'd have expected something comparable for the vehicle's value frankly. This system is more of a mid-range system in terms or sound quality, rather than a mid-high end system like I would've expected (high-end being B&O, Mark Levinson. etc). The biggest annoyance I have with the system is the fact the subs are basically in the front doors. This causes the doors vibrate a lot and it's not going to take long before the rattles start. There should have been a sub in the rear deck or underneath the seats at the very least. By all means though I certainly don't hate it, I just had higher expectations.

For your second question, music on a USB stick is the best option. The HU only supports MP3, WMA, AAC, and OGG though, and they're all lossy formats. You'll have to choose the one you like the most and rip your CDs to 320kbps VBR if you want to retain the most fidelity possible. Personally though I don't find audio from Spotify to be that bad as long as you set the bitrate to "extreme" (sets it to 320kbps internally). Bluetooth or USB I don't seem to hear any quality loss due to the HU. The SXM tuner will always sound terrible over the air, and even worse depending on the station you're listening to. Actually in the Mazda6 it sounds a fair bit better than other cars I've heard. For better SXM sound quality use the Android/iPhone app. I do find it strange though you complain about sound quality and then say you mostly listen to local FM...

In general yes, it could be better. The system is definitely missing lows and a few layers of overall clarity. Put a decent aftermarket system in with a solid DSP and it'll likely sound great. You can probably retain output from the HU as well since I'm pretty sure the output to the amp is only 4x full-range, pre-amp level signals (RCA equivalent).

Nice review although I wouldn't say Harman Kardon is perfect either. I test drove a BMW 435i with the high end HK and it soinded horrible. My 2016 Mazda 6 Bose sounded better. IMO

Automobile systems are generally built to a price point no matter who builds it. For instance the Bose Performance system Infinit uses is nice as is the Bose Panaray system in the Caddilac CT6.

I'm holding judgement in the 2018 Signature Bose system until it breaks in.

Thanks for the input.
Think I will see a audio shop and upgrade the speakers and add an amp supported subwoofer in rear somewhere.
