Default Running rough

Hi, I have a 2003 Mazda 6 with the 3.0 DOHC. It seems to hesitate sometimes, usually when its wet or raining. I originally thought that it might be the ignition coils but I took them out when I changed the spark plugs but they didnt look like their was anything wrong with them. I also sprayed water on them when the car was running to see if one would spark but none of them did. I was wondering if someone might have had this problem and know how to fix it. Thanks

Need a few more deets man.
Is the engine stock?
Aftermarket parts?
You could try cleaning your MAF sensor. That's cheap and easy.
How many miles?
Does the hesitation happen on acceleration?
CEL on?

Yes the engine is stock, it has 129,000 miles. Yes the hesitation only happens on acceleration. The check engine light isn't on which i kinda wish it was because then i might have some idea of why it is doing this. I think that it leaks oil too because at times you can smell burning oil but it never uses any oil and their is never any on the ground. I have looked at the motor and it is clean. The only place that their is any oil is on a hose in the front of the motor but the oil doesnt look fresh.

I wish mine didnt use any oil.

Start with cleaning you MAF sensor. Very easy to do.

The burning oil may be caused by a slight leak on rear valve cover dripping onto rear exhaust manifold.

Is it common for that motor to leak oil out of the rear valve cover? My dad has a 2001 Ford tauras with the same motor and it leaks oil too and its the same thing with that you can smell it but it doesn't use it and you cant see it.

Im not sure if the valve covers are that common of an issue. I just thought it may be possible since you said you cant see it.

Based on this alone, it sounds like your fuel pump is on it's dying leg. I have a 2003 with a V6 and I had the same issue at around 115,000 miles. After much research, I decided that my fuel pump was bad, so I got one on ebay and replaced it. Problem solved. Easy job too. Just an educated suggestion based on my experience with the same symptoms.

As for the oil situation, I too have the same thing. I have a slow oil leak from the front valve cover and I cant see it without being under the car. Every once in awhile I get a whiff of burnt oil through my vents.

I didn't consider that part. I'm not sure, but you shouldn't rule out the fuel pump. Aside from the rain/humidity, the symptoms are pointing to fuel pump.

I am going to clean the MAS and see if that makes a difference and I really hope that it does because I really don't want to spend the money on a new fuel pump.
