Default Newbie to the site, looking forward to learning about the 6!

Hey y'all,
I take care of my wife's '07 Mazda 6. I have a long history of basic auto maintenance, and have found the 6 to be really annoying, but I'm hoping it's just a learning curve thing and not a life-long frustration.

The car has 99k miles and runs great! I've replaced all four disc brakes, and the regular maintenance stuff - oil, filters, wipers, headlights.

Does the oil pan bolt have some weird size? It seems like a 13mm is too small and a 14mm wrench is too big!

I'm trying to determine if I should get after the timing belt/chain, but I'm guessing it's no picnic and would love to put it off (forever, ha!) More reasonably, I can probably tackle this in the new year if it's due. Y'all have any insights?

Thanks! Have an awesome day

Welcome,

would be a lot easier to help if we knew which engine you had.

my guess would be a V6, and either way the engine is timing chain and no need to service unless the tensioner goes bad or chain stretches. If it is a V6, I believe the stock bolt is a 14mm, but it has been ages since I've had one. either engine, has a standard metric nut on their..... I have a Fumoto valve now, just for how clean it makes everything.

Thank you!
I appreciate the replies. I believe it's a 2.3L four. Just got my brand new Haynes manual today, very excited.

How would I know if the timing chain got stretched? Would the engine rumble?
I will look up this Fumoto valve thing - never heard of that before. Clearly I've been in all the wrong forums!
