Default Looking at getting a 6 wagon

Hi all, I currently drive one of two vehicles, a 94 Honda Accord EX and an 04 Mazda MPV.

I was looking at a newer vehicle to replace my daily driver (the accord. The wife drives the PeeVee) and wanted a bit larger interior. I LOVE wagons in general, but the 6 wagon is sexy. I really dig it. I love Mazdas and always have, my bro drives a 1st generation 2.3L 6 and a buddy has an 02 Mazda Protege 5.

Anyways, I'm here to check things out and get some information. If it can be answered here, my questions are, can I get the v6 in a manual? Kbb lists the wagon as having optional 3rd row, but I haven't seen anything to support this, does it exist?

And really, that's about it, how does everyone like their cars and is there anything to look out for when I go to buy one?

Thanks in advance everyone

You can get the wagon with a manual (I own one). There is no third row seat though. There really isn't room for one, unless it was set up like the old Taurus where they used the spare tire area for footroom.

^Yep. I've owned my 05 for 5 years now. I love my wagon, and have since I bought it. You don't see them everyday, they have nice lines, and I can't argue with handling.

Your right about not seeing many. Sometime's I think I am the only guy that bought one in Columbus, Ohio. We have loved ours for 6 years now(wow......that long already?) Keeps running and running. Gotta love all that room when you let the rear seats down. Make sure you get a good cargo matt.

Very rarely seen around here as well. Although, there is one not too far away.....

Mostly happy with it. Wanted cargo area for hobby as SCCA corner worker, as well as camping & biking.

Stock handling and braking left much to be desired. MazdaSpeed springs & bars have mostly taken care of handling, but Tokico shocks I put on aren't up to the wagon's weight. Braking was helped with braided lines and Hawk HPS pads.

had mine for 6 months now, I love it
Needed more trunk space with my kid and all but did not want to get a boring car or a van or SUV
Ended up getting the 6 on a headrush to get my wife happy...I must say this was my best choice so far, great for driving and so much room in the back...and it's probably the only wagon i feel that looks good (with the audi RS6 Avant)

I got it in auto and I love it, i miss the manual for the feeling from time to time but then I get stuck in traffic and forget about that...that tiptronic is actually working on the 6 v6!

In general, it seems the 03 and 04 model years had several teething problem that were resolved by 2005. 2006 brought a bit of restyling (blacked out tail lights vs all red, radio/HVAC styling changed to mostly black from mostly silver) along with some mechanical differences including (but not limited to) bigger brakes, different exhaust routing, etc.

There are also several issues with automatics it seems, but it looks like you plan on avoiding that all together with the manual. I own a 2005s Hatchback and it has proven very reliable to date with no real issues, other than an automatic transmission that doesn't always behave as I think it should.

I share the general consensus that these are practical (especially in hatch/wagon form), reliable and fun daily drivers.

Good luck with your search...you may be on a bit of a unicorn hunt, but it will be worth it in the end.

Steel Grey seems to be the most popular color for the wagons! I see another on occasion near work.

My '04 is a manual and I'm finally about to replace the clutch (131k miles). If you find a manual, watch out for the clutch shudder - a common issue on all manual 6's I believe. Mazda has updated parts, or upgrade.

I love my wagon and it since November '04 - it has taken all the abuse I give it.

For handling I've put on Racing Beat Springs and the RB rear bar, as well as Bilstein shocks.

I do like the looks of the black tail from the later years, but the red aren't too bad.

I've had my wagon for about 2 months and I love it. My only complaint is aftermarket parts and oem parts are very pricey! My idler pulley is nocking my buddy says they are bad to go out around 65000 miles . Other than that I am very pleased with it's comfortable and for a v6 gets good gas milege.
