I am interested in replacing my OEMs with some fresh rubber. I live in Florida so i dont need all-season. I dont know what performance level tire i need (Extreme, Max, Ultra High, High) I want as much traction as i can, but I want to have them last a while. What tire would you recomend? and how much do they cost?

Also, I was wondering if i should go with 225/45 or stick with 215/45-50

If you are on the 17" rims, there are no high performance alternatives in the 215/50R17 size. The two highest performance tires you can fit probably are the Yokohama ADVAN Sport in the 205/55R17 size or the Continental ContiSportContact 3 in the 225/50R17 size. Both have a mounted diameter slightly larger than the OEM Michelins. The size of the contact patches for both are the same, but the shapes of the contact patches are different.

225/45/17

Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212 $99
Falken Azenis Rt615 $112

both these tires might last you 15-20k miles. best tire for traction imo

Falken Ziex Ze 512 $75

all around descent tire. i've heard good things about these. just bought a set for the wife's car.

Falken Azenies in a 225 FTW! I highly recommend, go auto - xing with it once you got some new shoes on her. You'll have a load of fun.

Thanks for the advice, ill look into the Azenis. I have done autox before and I did have fun. Now that I have the rear swaybar I want to get better tires (and shocks/springs... its addicting lol)

Only problem with these is that they wear pretty fast for the level of grip they offer. The higher profile (60, 65 series) 512's seem to last a good while, but in our size they're rated @ 30K miles. I've had a set in 215/45/17 on my Civic for about 15K and the fronts are pretty well torn up. They wore evenly, just fast. We had snow today and they were pretty terrible.

I'd vote for the RS2's. If I can find a set of 16x8 OEM FD wheels for a good price come summer I'll be running those and then the 512's on the stock 17's. I'm thinking the Falkens should wear much better if I'm just using them for winter and not driving hard on them.

The BFG KD offers insane grip. Not sure if they have them in the size you need though. Tire Rack sells them.

rt-615s and rs2 z212s will NOT last 15-20k miles, lol

look for UHP summer tires. personally, i'd recommend the Kumho Ecsta SPT or BF Goodrich G-Force Sports as both are excellent everyday tires and are great in the rain too.

edit: i've had my g-force sports for just over a year now, with 23,000 miles, 7 autocrosses, and a lot of other wear and tear but they're still holding up.

edit again, dammit: my friend went to ERAU and he drives a 6s. what year did you graduate, or are you still in school?

Yokohama AVS ES100s served me well on my previous car (Acura CL-S). Rated an ultra high performance tire, comparable to the Kumho SPTs. They are available in stock 215/50/17s as well as 225/45/17 for a little over $100 each. Quiet ride and great dry and wet grip.
