I am confused about the O-rings being replaced, why should I replace them.
And doesn't that add-up on the $$.

Please give me a good reason why I should replace these.
Thanks

Step 5: Cartridge replacement. Remove and discard the old cartridge and the large O-Ring on the housing and the small O-Ring on the drain plug. Replace with new cartridge and O-Rings, lubricate the O-Rings with fresh motor oil.

The o-rings probably don't NEED to be changed everytime, but why risk it? With a nice new o-ring, you'll minimize the chances of leaks. Besides, the o-rings are included with the filter. I figure, if I'm buying them anyway, why not use them? I believe the WIX filters also include the o-rings.
