I just purchased a 2006 mazda 6 v6 5psd with 55k miles. Every now and then when I get wheel spin on snow or ice I experience horrible wheel hop on the driver side. Could this be a motor mount? Any help is much appreciated.

SOunds like a mount issue.. I would suggest looking at AWR/CPE mounts for you 6s.

Diagnosis 1: Don't dump the clutch and slow down.
Diagnosis 2: Replace stock wishbone mount with a CP-e mount

but man its so fun when I rip it over a sheet of ice. I like to make a game out of it. You close your eyes and try to guess what the first thing you hit is.

If there really is a problem It's one of 3 things, your upper transmission mount (possibly lower rear mount, but I doubt it) is shot, your driver's side strut is shot, or you have torn some of the bushings in your control arms.
