I brought my 04 V6-MTX Mazda6 to the dealer for an oil change last week and they performed a recall on the transmission module. I asked them what it was for and they told me that it addresses some shifting, stalling, and power loss issues related to the transmission. It was just a software update.

Much to my delight, the car drives a lot better now! Especially when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I'd say it's 10 times easier to shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd. Also the engine indeed doesn't stall as easily as it used to. The last thing I noticed is that the car has better acceleration.

Does anyone know more details about this recall at all? I'm interested to know more about the details of this recall.

I'd strongly recommend V6-MTX Mazda6 owners to bring their cars back to the dealer for this recall.

How does a computer update fix a manual transmission?

If you look at the last page of the service bulletin it clearly states TCM for A/T only. More then likely they adjusted some values in the PCM which makes it feel stonger. I had this same recall done in sept, car definatly pulls a lil stronger in the lower rpm's. Most likely timing/AF adjustments althought Mazda would never let you know.

Just had mine done last week. Seems to hold certain gears longer and shift at different points. The man-matic mode seems to respond quicker as well. Not as fast as I'd like it to, but better. But mine is an auto...

So, what exactly can the computer do to the MTX? Why do they even do the flash if its for ATX only? Im due for an oil change this week and its still cold as hell so ill be taking it in to be done. Wonder if theyll say something.

That would be difficult since you don't even have one.

Um, the computer can't affect the difficulty in shifting from 1st to 2nd in a Manual Transmission. There is no computer interface with your transmission and no "module" to update. That difficulty in shifting is purely a mechanical problem.

You got taken by some apparent major placebo effect.

The PCM update that you do get does feel like it gives the car a little more added grunt on the lower-end. That alone is probably a good reason to take it in. The downside is that many members have reported a lowered redline as a result of the update. Odd thing is that it's not every person across the board getting that result.

They lower the redline? Hmmm... If i were to decline the PCM, would I be forfiting anything when it comes to the warranty?
