Thumbs up

I just bought a 2009 Mazda 6i. I ask to get the auto dim rear view mirror and the heated auto dim side mirrors. The ordered the parts and when they went to install. The side mirrors will not work on my car (not pre-wired for ED door mirror kit) They don't tell you this when you order them. Hey the dealer didn't even know. The installation instructions have you check your rear main harness label to find out. I really want heated mirrors. anybody have any ideas.

Thanks

Lots of guys I know did this on CR-Vs.

If they'll fit, and they're driven like most cars, what you need to do is this:
wire-fish a pair of speaker wires (call it 18ga)

All you'll need from there is a switch and a 12v relay.

Can you post a picture of the rear of the mirrors?

I'll help if I can.

Okay, I can't tell for sure, but it looks like there's only 2 leads; if that's the case, those are your target.

If not, please give me a higher res shot of the black side of that harness and that inside (top in this picture) part of the mirror.

To bench test (if there are only 2 wires):
Get an inline blade fuse (10amp should do it) and for about 10-20 seconds, "plug it in" ( to 12V, see below).
The surface of the mirror should get slightly warm in this time.

Obviously unplug it quickly if anything odd happens . . .

Now, most people don't have a 12v house inverter . . . what I usually do is buy a cigarette lighter extension cord, cut it in half, then split the wires (so you have a ground and hot) and fuse the + side; use small wire nuts for in-car bench testing.

If you don't have a multimeter, get one, they're hugely helpful in telling what wire is what when poking around inside electronics.

I'll see if I can hunt up a friend of mine's write-up for his CR-V from another board.

He said they're heated and auto dim so there will be more than 2 wires.
If he has blind Spot, there will be at least 4 if they all ground to the same wire. Could be as many as 6 if grounded separately.

*looks in wiring book*

Blind Spot Monitoring Wires
Driver Side
+ = W/R
- = B
Pass Side
+ = W/B
- = B

Dimming (both sides)
Y/L
BR/L

Heated
Driver Side
+ = P/B
- = B
Pass Side
+ = P/O
- = B

Look for my posts on the subject. The label is on the harness under drivers scuff plate. You will also need the dimming inside mirror.

Hey deadstick I checked my harness and it wasn't set up for the side mirror, is it safe to say that I'm probably not pre-wired for the inside mirror? Do you know of a way to check that as well?

You can at any rate install the inside mirror w/compass/homelink. There is a choice of two different harness's, one that is plug and play, and one that terminates with three connections - switched power, constant power, and ground. In fact, you could just pull those conductors out of the plug and play harness also.
You will loose the reverse function (Mirror goes to full reflection when reverse is selected) and integration with the side mirrors.

I would be surprised if you really had the "bad" number on your harness. You pulled the scuff plate off and found the harness number?
