I was washing my car last week and noticed that there is a foam/rubber seal that is coming out from between my windshield base and my dash. My initial instinct was to just get a screwdriver and force it back down, but I was going to the dealer for another issue so figured I would mention it. Thankfully they are having a Factory rep out at the dealer tomorrow and they wanted my car to show him the problem. The dealership figures they will either have to remove the windshield or the dash and replace the seal. The way it looks through the windshield it appears to be an excess amount of seal exposed. Here is a picture (sorry its from my cell phone)

I haven't noticed this, but thanks for the heads up.

Dealer (Martin Mazda - Newark DE) called me back today. Factory Rep told them to keep the car overnight and pull the dash, they ordered a new rubber strip for a Mazda RX8 (of all things) to replace the old one. They suggested that the rubber seal from the RX8 has adhesive on one side so it should not work its way out again. We'll see! I pick up the car tomorrow night. I hope I don't start getting dash rattles as a result of this!

Got the car back it it looks good. They pulled the dash pad and replaced the foam strip. It was covered under warranty, but the invoice said it was a $267.00 repair! That's nuts. Thank God for warranties.
Hypothesis is that the adhesive on the foam (apparently it did have adhesive on it) had failed and with the car in the sun, it just "expanded" out of the joint. Martin Mazda in Newark DE has a decent service department...I think many others would have just shoved it back in and called it a day.
These are the parts that were replaced for reference:
F151-55-162 Tape, seal
F151-55-163 Tape, seal

Repaired as per Mazda Factory Rep.

This happen to me two days ago. It had been hitting 107+ temps, so I figured it was from the heat. I literally did what you thought of doing. I took the notepad I was writing on and pushed it in with the cardboard backing. It was only a couple of inches exposed. If it returns as much as your pics, I'll take it in. I'm getting on at the bottom of the a-pillar as well now.

Add me to the list. I just looked at my windshield and notice the foam is up about a 1/2" in one spot. I wonder if enough cars have the problem they will issue a TSB.

Mine isn't sticking out quite as bad, but I am certain it shouldn't be visible at all. So I guess you can also add me to the list. Does any one know what the foam is actually used for?

They explained to me that it stops squeaks from the dash pad.
