OK, I have driven nothing but an 88 or 89 Mazda 929 sedan since January 1990. I still have two but I do think it's time for a change. I've been leaning towards a lightly used Mazda6 Sport Wagon, nicely loaded but not a MazdaSpeed (don't want Turbo). Should I (can I?) go for a manual tramsmission? Automatic? I do 95% of my own wrenching. How are these to work on for regular maintenance tasks? Any real weak areas I should consider before doing this? I've pretty much settled on getting some kind of small wagon, the 6, a good Volvo V70 if one can say good and Volvo in the same sentence, Saab or MB etc. I want a wagon, not a mini SUV and the 6 is a good looking machine. I drive 100 miles a day and want comfort and easy cruise at 75+. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

[attachment=43610:P2220646.jpg]Love my 04 s wagon w/5 spd man. Work on it all the time. Front lights a pain to get to, but so far haven't trouble with the mods and maintenance I've done: tanabe strut tower barce, injen cold air, cp-e mac for injen fix, steeda tb spacer, ngk iridium spark plugs, tb coolant bypass, egr mod, voltage stabilizer, and obx mufflers. Bought a ground wire kit, but haven't installed it yet.

This is great! What a good looking machine! Yup, I'm going to start shopping and for a manual tranny. I like that there are mods to be made. Probably be my last regular car (although I do keep a small stable of toys!

It's not exactly "rare", but manuals are more difficult to come across in the wagon. No idea why.

My only recommendation is I found the cloth interior to be as uncomfortable as can be. Normally I wouldn't opt for leather in a car, but it's so much nicer in the 6. Not the feel of it, but the comfort factor of it.

Had my 6 wagon since February, and it's been a faithful friend this far.

I just drove a nice one but the carfax came back dirty, bad accident. Just have to keep looking. Hoping to get it before the snow flies around here.

US Mazda 6 wagon dropped the manual transmission for the final 2007 model year. FYI.
